About Me

Who am I?

I’m Jen, married 25 years to my bestest friend ever, mom to 2 twenty somethings, and a pet parent to a tiny dog (Molly), and two cats (Chubbs and Sheila), who are bigger than the dog!  We have been living in the beautiful little village of Clayton, Ontario for the past 10 years!  Time flies!  I am a maker, crafter, artist, sewist, designer and more…  I really enjoy making things, using different mediums and tools, as much as I love learning how to do new things.

What am I doing?

Being a maker at heart, and having been enlightened that life can become short, very quickly and unexpectedly, I am living my dream!  I am making things that will hopefully help to fill your needs, or help you bring your ideas to life.  I am usually very good at understanding what someone is looking for, in terms of designs for a variety of things, like custom signs, cutting boards, and gifts to made for that special person or occasion.

I also loooove fabrics, notions and supplies, <3  so I’ve opted to carry fabric, notions and supplies to offer to my fellow makers! You can find my fabric shop at its new location Fabrics’n’Fun Shop.  I am working on expanding the variety and types of fabric and tools, but keep in mind that each bolt of fabric has a limited amount of yards/meters.  I most likely will not be able to purchase more of the same design, unless the manufacturer opts to make more.  If you see something you like, get it while you can!

What’s my business?

My business is a home business, an online store, with ready made products, products ready to be customized, as well as fabrics by the yard, and other notions and tools.  I also have two etsy shops that do keep me busy, but not too busy! 😉  I do not have a ‘retail’ location, nor retail hours.  But for anyone local, who would like to come for a visit, we can arrange a mutually convenient day and time for you to stop by!  I also have a ‘local pick up’ option at check out, if you would like to place an order and pick it up – porch pick is available as well.

Why Sandals’n’Sawdust as a name?

I think it was back in the summer of 2016.  Our business, at that time, was “Rockburns’ Woodworks”.  My husband and I were making bread, potato and onion bins, mailboxes, personalized wood toy/keepsake chests, custom burned signs, etc, in our spare time.  On a day that I was sanding some rough sawn wood (because I like the rough look, but not the scratchy-ness!), I looked down and noticed that my pink sandals and toes were covered in wood dust!  I posted a picture of my sandals and sawdust on my fb page, and it was mentioned that this would be a great business name!  And I agreed!
